Simon has put his extensive operational and managerial knowledge to the test when founding, and subsequently selling, several successful international oil and gas service businesses. Even after 40 years in this industry, Simon has not lost his enthusiasm for revolutionising the market. With his latest venture, Qteq, Simon aims to marry innovative technologies with optimised cost performance around a highly motivated team and bring this new business model to the georesources industry.
Dr Tim Hopper
Chief Technology Officer
Dr Tim Hopper earned his PhD in Magnetic Resonance Imaging prior to moving into the oil and gas industry where he worked for Schlumberger for 10 years. His career with Schlumberger involved stints as wireline field engineer, senior research scientist, project manager (LWD NMR) and petro-physicist. Prior to starting NMR Services Australia, Tim worked for an African explorer as its principal petro-physicist. From 2013 until its sale, Tim successfully steered NMR Services Australia to more than 70% revenue growth year-on-year. That company designed, manufactured and supported wireline BMR tools across five continents, spanning all minerals and water markets. Tim was a Fulbright Scholar during his PhD and has earned several accolades over the years. He has 19 patents to his name and has published more than a dozen technical papers. Tim’s passion is identifying new technologies and applying them outside of their normal realms. His wide experience enables him to quickly identify technological and engineering opportunities.
Perth-based mining and corporate governance specialist Mark Donovan has been appointed to the Qteq Board as Non-Executive Director. Mark has 22 years’ experience in the minerals industry and before then worked for more than 10 years as a lawyer and partner in a Perth legal firm where he specialised in criminal and commercial litigation. After moving into the minerals field, Mark has held senior legal and managerial roles with WMC Resources and BHP Billiton, most recently as its head of corporate affairs for BHP Billiton Iron Ore. Mark has a thorough understanding of the industry across legal, risk, governance, communications and government affairs. Mark has extensive experience in commercial and contractual negotiations and has led multi-disciplinary teams in a broad range of areas, from exploration to negotiating native title agreements and development agreements with state governments.
Chief Executive Officer
Ewan has over 30 years’ experience in senior technical and management roles in the international oil and gas industry. He spent 10 years at Baker Hughes where he held both operations and sales director roles and 20 years with Expro heading up repair and maintenance, permanent gauge business and as area manager for Australasia. Ewan is a specialist in managing multi-discipline teams, financial planning and budgeting. He has a deep knowledge of the permanent monitoring systems, high-temperature electronics, cased hole logging tools, memory gauges, surface readout systems and surface data acquisition systems.
Chief Innovation Officer
Quentin has 35 years’ experience at both small and major international oilfield services companies. After several years in various field positions, he spent 13 years at Expro helping to establish new geomarkets for reservoir logging, monitoring and sampling services, and a further four years managing the company’s R&D team. Quentin then spent 10 years at Weatherford, first as a region product line manager for intelligent completions and then for sandface completions, with his growing expertise and knowledge culminating in his appointment as a technical director. Quentin was appointed CTO of Qteq’s forerunner in 2011. He holds a BSc in Nuclear Physics and an MSc in Petroleum Engineering.
Chief Financial Officer
Damian has 20 years’ experience in corporate finance, governance and commercial business management. He has held senior roles at Woolworths and AAPT, as well as Group CFO roles for a number of high-growth global ASX-listed, public and private companies in the services and technology sectors. Damian specialises in complex corporate actions such as corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions, capital raising, ASX listing, international business, commercial risk management and governance. Known for his commercial acumen, pragmatism and leadership, Damian is passionate about commercialising technology and building profitable businesses. He holds graduate and post-graduate qualifications from Macquarie University, and is a graduate of both CPA Australia and the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
Managing Director - Monitoring
Stuart is a highly skilled technical, sales and management professional, with more than 16 years’ experience in the Oil and Gas industry. As the Senior Project Engineer at DNV GL, Stuart spent two years inspecting and certifying Well Control and Drilling equipment before moving to Baker Hughes, where he worked for 11 years. During his decade-long employment with the company, he held several international roles including Technical Sales Manager, Sales and Operations Manager and Global Business Development Manager. It was during this time that his passion for the industry was realised. Prior to joining Qteq, Stuart was the Australasian Country Manager for Archer Oil Tools where he advanced his proven track record for developing and maintaining client relationships. Stuart specialises in Completion Products, Customer Relations Management and Business Development. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and a Postgraduate Diploma in Mechanical Engineering from Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen.
Legal Counsel (Advisory)
Gareth is an experienced lawyer in the georesources field. He has more than 12 years’ experience working in senior legal roles in the UK and three other continents where he has developed excellent technical, legal and negotiating skills. While working in the UK, Gareth spent six years in private practice with a top-tier corporate firm, primarily focused on private equity deals as well as mergers and acquisitions in the oil and gas sector. He has since held executive positions with multi-national oil and gas corporations in North America, Europe and Asia, including as head of legal. Each of those roles involved global legal oversight and capitalised on his pragmatic business approach. Gareth is also a professionally certified business coach.
